The Texas Forest Service says a record 249 counties have outdoor burn bans as the heat wave and drought continue.

The agency reported Tuesday that the only counties without the burn bans are Willacy and Zapata in far South Texas, and Chambers, Jefferson and Orange in Southeast Texas.

The state's previous outdoor burn ban record, prior to this year's drought, was set in January 2006 with 221 counties imposing the limits. The Texas Forest Service says that mark was passed in June.
