BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - There are currently two inmates at the Brazos County Jail who have tested positive for COVID-19.

Last week, BCSO said one inmate tested positive for COVID-19. Now, that inmate has retested negative but is still quarantining as a precaution. 56 inmates and five staff members were tested as a result, but BCSO says all of those tests came back negative.

BCSO Jail Administrator Wayne Dicky says the two new cases entered into the facility already positive. They were booked July 5 and July 10 and told staff they contracted coronavirus by community spread prior to being arrested. They are currently in medical isolation for at least one more week.

Additionally, three BCSO employees have tested positive for COVID-19 and are off duty and quarantining at home.

BCSO says 16 inmates are currently in medical observation.
