BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) -Mervin Peters has made a lasting impact on the city of Bryan through Boonville Heritage Park and on Tuesday he was awarded with the Knight of San Jacinto honor by the Sons of the Republic of Texas William Joel Bryan Chapter #14.

The Knighthood in the Order of San Jacinto is presented to those who have performed outstanding service to the state of Texas. The honor is also the highest achievable honor bestowed in the Sons of the Republic of Texas organization.

Mervin Peters of Bryan definitely fits these qualifications.

Peters is the man behind Boonville Heritage Park in Bryan. In 2015, he was in charge of the park’s development project that features the Turner-Peters dogtrot log cabin.

For Peters, the knighthood is a big honor.

“It’s very much an honor, very much appreciated," said Peters. "Particularly being nominated by the chapter where my activities have been focused. It’s something that I had not anticipated at all.”

Peters is just one of four members ever from the Sons of the Republic of Texas William Joel Bryan Chapter #14 to receive the knighthood honor.
