Gov. Abbott appoints College Station physician to Texas Medical Board

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - Gov. Greg Abbott has appointed College Station physician James “JD” Distefano D.O., to the Texas Medical Board. The board regulates the practice of medicine in Texas.

Distefano is a board certified physician at Cornerstone Sports Medicine and is a team physician for Texas A&M Athletics.

He received a Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technology from Northeast Louisiana University, and a Doctor of Osteopathy from Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Distefano served in the United States Air Force and is a member of the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association, American Osteopathic Association, American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine, and the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine.

He also volunteers as a physician for the Special Olympics.

Distefano’s term on the board is set to expire April 13, 2025.
