Navasota ISD completes Phase 2 of construction at Navasota High
The new upgrades offer a wide variety of College, Career, Military Readiness curriculum
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) -Monday, Navasota Independent School District opened their door to City of Navasota Officials to give a tour of their upgrades and new construction at Navasota High School. Navasota ISD started the massive project back in 2019 after passing a $61 million bond in 2017. Phase 2 of the bond consists of $35 million worth of upgrades.
Phase 2 of the upgrades include a new career and technology education center. The center offers a wide variety of their CCMR or College, Career, Military Readiness curriculum. Additions include a new medical science lab, engineering lab, auto garage, greenhouse, veterinary sciences lab, culinary arts lab, cosmetology lab, and much more.
District Superintendent Dr. Stu Musick led the tour around the 45,000 square foot facility. He says he proud of the upgrades, but he’s even more grateful to offer many career and education options to students.
“It’s something here for everyone,” said Musick. “We have everything from cosmetology, culinary arts, AG sciences, welding certifications, small animal management, veterinary medicine, and so many things in between.”
Navasota Mayor Bert Miller said having these opportunities for students is life-changing.
“The commitment that the school has made here basically gives an opportunity to kid’s right here in Navasota to go directly to work in Navasota, at an industry right here,” said Miller. “That’s pretty neat.”
Musick says being able to offer large opportunities in a small hometown school environment is good for everyone.
“If they choose to go to a technical or trade school or they choose to go to a junior college or choose to go to a four-year college or university, that option will be available, and they’ll be prepared to do that,” said Musick. “If they choose to go straight into the workforce, they’re going to be prepared to do that as well.”
The fine arts department also received major upgrades that include a new black box theater, media tech lab, green screen lab, and teaching theater.
Navasota Jr. High also added four new science labs, a choir room, a computer lab, and a new Kickstart Kids Dojo to offer an additional form of physical education. The kickstart Dojo is scheduled to be dedicated to Grand Master Chuck Norris, a Navasota resident. The dojo is supported in part by the Kickstart Kids Foundation and Chuck Norris.
Navasota ISD is currently working on the next phase of their upgrades. Officials say they are also making improvements to their sports facilities, which are not a part of the bond.
