COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - Work continues to find missing Texas children and recognition is happening Wednesday for the nationwide Amber Alert System.

Wednesday is Amber Alert Awareness Day. It happens every year in honor of the Amber Alert System which was set up after a North Texas child, Amber Hagerman, was abducted and murdered.

The Amber Alert Network of the Brazos Valley works with law enforcement, local media and the community to provide important information through its regional notification program since 2003.

“Amber Hagerman was a nine-year-old girl who was abducted and unfortunately murdered in Arlington, TX in 1996. Today is the 25th anniversary of her abduction. That case unfortunately is still an active case. No one has been held to account for the crime that was committed,” said Chuck Fleeger, Amber Alert Network Brazos Valley Executive Director

To date the Amber Alert system has successfully recovered 1,025 children.
