HUNTSVILLE, Texas (KBTX) - On their second stop of their Inauguration Week trip, five Sam Houston State University Students visited Vicksburg, Mississippi. They stopped by the Vicksburg Battlefield, taking in all of the history from this Civil War site.

On Wednesday, the group also traveled to the home of Medgar Evers, a civil rights activist. Later, they went to Jackson, Mississippi.

“I’m very interested in learning more about civil rights,” said SHSU political science major, Ilexus Williams. “I’ve learned about the civil rights movement in class, but it’s always been on the surface level. Being able to come here and actually physically visit the sites is just amazing.”

Tune into First News at Four for the rest of the week to see where the group is headed to next!
