No. 4 Men’s Swimming & Diving returns to competition at SMU
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 4 Texas A&M men’s swimming & diving team returns to the pool after a lengthy break from competition. The Aggies head to Dallas to take on SMU at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center on January 16 at 2 p.m., which will not be open to the public.
The Maroon & White tallied eight record-breaking performances and 31 first-place finishes during its fall slate. As a result, the Aggies open up their spring schedule boasting a No. 4 ranking by the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America, breaking into the top five nationally for the second straight season.
In 2019-20, A&M spent much of the season as a top-five team, earning its highest rankings since locking up the No. 3 spot during the 2001 season. The bulk of the Aggies’ standout times came from the Art Adamson Invite where A&M posted six record-breaking performances.
Senior Tanner Olson set the school record in the 100 breast twice in one day during the invite and junior Luke Stuart also set a new program mark in the 1,000 free while competing in the 1,650 free.
The Aggies swam against SMU earlier this year at the First Chance Invite, as well as last season when they earned a 158-99 win over the Mustangs. On the diving board, senior Kurtis Mathews has finished with the highest score twice this season on the 1-meter board, most recently boasting a first-place finish at the Art Adamson Invite. Sophomore Tony Stewart and freshman Kyle Sanchez have each secured a pair of top-three finishes this season as they aided the team to a sweep on the 1-meter and 3-meter boards at the Art Adamson Invite.
