BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - A week after a hail storm ravaged cars, roofs and more, Brazos County has issued a Declaration of Disaster.

Within the declaration, County Judge Duane Peters notes that the area is forecasted to receive more rainfall throughout the next few days. Peters states that more damage will occur if emergency roof repairs are not completed before the rainfall.

“By this declaration, I declare all rules and regulations that may inhibit or prevent prompt response to this threat suspended for the duration,” according to the declaration.

This action allows the county to access emergency management funds and activate the emergency management plan.

“I, Duan Peters, the County Judge and presiding office of Brazos County, have determined that extraordinary and immediate measures must be taken to respond quickly, prevent and alleviate the potential for property damage and risk to the health of the staff, the public, and detainees,” the declaration states.

The declaration will be in effect for seven days unless it is renewed by the Brazos County Commissioners Court.
