BYRAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M men’s swimming & diving program will see 18 swimmers compete at U.S. Olympic Team Trials at the CHI Health Center Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska. The meet is split into two waves this year, with Wave I running June 4-7 and Wave II, which will see the U.S. Olympic Team named on the final day, taking place June 13-20. Rising senior Shaine Casas earned an invitation to U.S. Olympic Team Trials after an impressive performance at the 2019 Phillips 66 National Championships.

Casas punched his ticket to Omaha when he claimed the 100 back title (52.72) at nationals, and finished second in the 200 IM (2:00.40) and 200 back (1:55.79) in the summer of 2019. His qualifying time in the 100 back ranks second behind U.S. Olympian Ryan Murphy, while his time in the 200 back is the third-fastest in the nation and his 200 IM time is the eight-best time.

During the 2020-21 collegiate season, Casas became A&M’s first national champion and gathered three individual top finishes at NCAA Championships (200 IM, 100 back, 200 back). He was the first swimmer in school history to be named CSCAA Division-I Men’s Swimmer of the Year. The McAllen, Texas native posted an A-cut time on 16 occasions across eight different events during his junior year and went on to tally 18 school-record breaking performances throughout the season. Casas was the co-recipient of the Commissioner’s Trophy for the second year in a row, which is awarded to the top point-earner at the SEC Championships. He defended his 200 IM and 200 back SEC titles and added a third-place finish in the 200 fly, while also helping a pair of relay teams to podium finishes.

Four current student-athletes will be competing in Wave I, including Jace Brown, Ethan Gogulski, Alexander Sanchez and Jacob Schababerle, as well as a pair of incoming freshmen in Tyler Hulet and Seth Reno.
