COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - Texas A&M University has hired an outside company to bring additional live entertainment to Kyle Field and Reed Arena. ASM Global is a venue management company that bills itself as “the world’s most trusted venue manager.”

ASM Global operates more than 300 stadiums, arenas, convention centers, entertainment districts, theaters, amphitheaters, and equestrian and recreational centers worldwide. In Texas, Kyle Field and Reed Arena will now be part of their portfolio along with the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, AT&T Center in San Antonio, H-E-B Center in Cedar Park, and the NRG Arena & Astrodome in Houston.

Darren Davis, Reed Arena General Manager says the partnership will have a significant impact on the types of events that are held at Reed Arena and Kyle Field that go beyond sports.

“We’re going to bring a variety of events. We’ve already started with some of those even before we formed this partnership,” said Davis. “We had the PBR here recently, and we just wrapped up a mixed martial arts event this past weekend. I think you can see in the future, we’re going to be bringing some more concerts, family shows, motor sports, comedy events, just a variety of entertainment options to the local community and here at Reed Arena.”

Davis says the economic impact will be significant for the university and the entire community.

“Local businesses, restaurants, and retail I think are going to see a lift from some of the events we are doing,” said Davis. “We are going to be programming events that will not only bring local community members to the campus but also out of market, regional and national attendees as well.”

One area that is sure to see the most economic impact from this partnership is the Northgate District in College Station.

Kyle Meredith, co-owner and general manager of Rough Draught Whiskey Bar, said his business is currently under renovations from a fire last year. Meredith says the business is set to reopen in July, so any new event that brings customers to the area is a welcomed sight.

“One thing the community is lacking is more live events and live social gathering, such as concerts, maybe a fight night or some sort of motor cross racing, anything like that. Just something to help us get out of COVID,” said Meredith. “By bringing more to the community, more things for people to do more, means economic growth for the community, more ways for people to spend their money on our economy to help it grow.”

Meredith says every new event that comes to the area impacts not only his business, but every business in the area.

“It helps a lot of businesses, you know, it brings people into town, you know, especially on a slow summer. People would have another reason to come and travel here, besides just going to athletic events... baseball games or football games or parents’ weekend,” said Meredith. “During the summertime, it’s really slow, and any growth that we can do during the summertime would be great. It would be good for hotels and motels. It would be good for restaurants and eateries. It would be good for the Northgate bar scene and bars and grills throughout town.”

Meredith says he would love to see more family-friendly events in the area as well.

“We’ve got families here. We just need to utilize the infrastructure that we have. And I think it’s a great thing to use the venues that we have for outdoor concerts and stuff like that,” said Meredith. “We’re trying to be more family-friendly not just students, late-night drinking, you know, it kind of gets a bad rep, but we want to strive to be more of a family place. We’ve got farmer’s markets that come out here. We’re trying to bring in more live music on the block. Northgate, I would like it to be known more than just a negative in the eyes of the community.”
