BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - Melvin Johnson, 52, of Calvert was sentenced to 50 years in prison by a Brazos County grand jury Thursday. He was convicted of two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child.

The assaults were reported by the girl’s mother in 2019, but happened a few years before that. The child told her mother and forensic interviewers that Johnson sexually assaulted her more than 40 times during her third grade school year when she was 8-9 years old.

Johnson’s criminal history was also taken into consideration during the punishment phase of his trial. He’s previously been convicted for burglary, theft, and resisting arrest. He also reportedly made threats against the judge and a prosecutor while in the Brazos County Jail awaiting trial.
