PLANTERSVILLE, Texas (KBTX) - Jollisant Farms in Grimes County provides Brazos Valley residents with the opportunity to handpick their own seasonal produce.

The fields of Jollisant Farms are located less than 45 minutes away from the BCS area and give families the opportunity to pick natural pesticide and chemical-free fruits and veggies like blackberries, cantaloupe, tomatoes and more.

“The benefit of picking your own produce is you know what you’re getting,” said Larry Jollisant, Jollisant Farms owner.

It’s one of the reasons why Jollisant chose to start implementing the naturally grown produce into his own lifestyle.

“[11 years ago,] I had heart problems, and I decided then that if I’m going to live longer, I am going to need to eat better,” said Jollisant. From there, he turned the family farm into a pick your own.

For all of his crops, Jollisant uses a leaf sample to study the nutrients.

“[A leaf sample] tell us what this product needs to put in this like the calcium, the born, the magnesium, the manganese, all the things that go into your body to make you healthy is what we do here,” said Jollisant.

Any leftover crops, especially fruits, Jollisant uses to create desserts and beverages he sells at the farm. Guests have the opportunity to enjoy homemade strawberry lemonade, snow cones, and Jollisant’s original creation “Jollipops,” which are chocolate-covered strawberry popsicles or homemade fruit-based popsicles.

If you want to try the crops grown on the farm, but don’t want to pick them yourself, crops, alongside honey, are sold onsite.

Before heading out to pick or shop, Jollisant strongly encourages visitors to call ahead to check crop levels. The farm can be reached at (936) 894-2766.

Jollisant Farms is located at 11351 County Road 203 in Plantersville. They are open seven days a week from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
