COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - It’s that time of year where being outside and not being prepared can be dangerous. If you plan to spend any amount of time tending your garden, you need to be careful!

“I pray that this is just a reminder for you to restock on products and get prepared for the gardening season,” said Jayla Fry with Texas A&M Agrilife.

First off, pay attention to your clothes. Think about wearing a long-sleeved shirt and pants if you’re outside for longer stints in the garden. That keeps you safer not only from the sun, but from any of the tools you might be using. The same goes for close-toed shoes.

You’ve probably noticed the mosquitoes out in force since all the rain we’ve had in the Brazos Valley. There are a variety of different types of reppelant but Fry says you should definitely put something on before you get started.

You can’t forget sunscreen either. That’s a summertime staple, especially here in Texas.
