BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - While summer means blue skies, summer camps and vacations for some, for those who are still feeling the effects of the COVID pandemic, summer means more uncertainty:

  • For some children in the Brazos Valley, school means more than education. School is food, shelter and support. That makes summer break a time of uncertainty and anxiety.
  • For many families in the Brazos Valley, summer brings financial stress, worries about affording breakfast and lunch for children and finding affordable, dependable and safe childcare.
  • Local seniors often struggle to pay summer electric bills on a fixed income. Since air conditioning is a lifeline during Texas summers, buying medicine or food becomes a difficult choice.

The work of the Brazos Valley Food Bank (BVFB) does not take a summer break.

Over the summer months, you can count on BVFB for the following:

  • Continued delivery of food-filled backpacks to children – in summer programming sites – instead of at schools
  • Continued stocking of the shelves of its partner agencies throughout the Brazos Valley, that see more visitors for food over the summer months
  • Continued Senior Food Bag delivery throughout the Brazos Valley to seniors on fixed incomes who could use a supplemental source of food
  • Continued Home Delivered Food to Brazos County residents facing continued pandemic obstacles to putting food on the table
