COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - Hundreds of softball teams descended on Bryan and College Station over the last two weeks for the Southwest Regional Softball Tournament.

Kindra Fry, Tourism Manager for Visit College Station, says they have been working hard all during the pandemic to help keep the local economy alive with events.

Over the last two weeks, 180 teams including more than 7,000 participants and fans have been playing games all spread out across multiple sports complexes in Brazos County.

Fry says this weekend alone is expected to bring in $3.1 million as people continue to stay in hotels, eat at local restaurants and shop in stores. In total, both weekends are expected to have an impact of $4.9 million.

“This softball tournament is a staple, it has been here nine years,” said Fry. “They come every year, they are always looking forward to coming, and it is just awesome to see the number of people we have here.”

Next week the city will be hosting the first weekend of the 7 on 7 football tournament, another weekend of sports that is expected to positively impact the community.
