COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - Do you ever have a hard time figuring out when to pick your fruits and veggies from the garden? Skip Richter with Texas A&M Agrilife has a few helpful suggestions!

“Leafy greens, things like lettuce don’t ripen we just pick them when we want them,” said Richter.

That goes for things like zucchini too. You need to be careful though because they can get too big and not as palatable.

tomatoes, peppers, and melons to ripen to maturity. Tomatoes can actually finish ripening once you’ve picked them. You can pick them at first blush and they’re fine. Melons on the other hand stop ripening the moment you pick them.
