Emergency and utility workers respond to weather-related emergencies, outages
Severe storms early Tuesday morning resulted in several weather-related emergencies across the Brazos Valley including water rescues, lightning strikes, power outages, and small fires.
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - Severe storms early Tuesday morning resulted in several weather-related emergencies across the Brazos Valley including water rescues, lightning strikes, power outages, and small fires.
As of 8 a.m. there’s a major traffic jam at Wellborn Road and Southwest Parkway. The lights are flashing red at the intersection holding up cars heading in all directions.

The most intense weather rolled through Brazos County and knocked out power for several thousand BTU and College Station utility customers. As many as 5,000 BTU customers were without power around 3:15 a.m. Most of those have been reportedly fixed by 8 a.m.
“Crews will address these outages as quickly and safely as possible,” said BTU in a statement on Twitter.
Firefighters and police were also responding to several high-water rescues across the area. According to police scanner traffic, several people were rescued along Texas Avenue near downtown Bryan after a couple of vehicles took on fast-rising water. Other water rescues were reported across the area but no serious injuries have been reported at this time.
Fire crews have also been busy responding to small fires at homes and businesses that were the result of lightning strikes.
At the College Station Police Department, 911 dispatchers were temporarily evacuated after staff members reported smelling something burning on the second floor of the building. According to scanner traffic, dispatchers were given the okay to return to the building about an hour later.
Small hail was reported in south College Station around 1:00 a.m. There have been some reports of major damage in that area.
Some scaffolding reportedly fell at Christ United Methodist Church as well overnight.
