HEARNE, Texas (KBTX) - Fire crews from several agencies responded to a bridge fire in Hearne.

The bridge is located near the Union Pacific Hearne and Cotropia Road crossing. The fire was discovered by a train approaching the bridge but stopped just before crossing. The opposite end of the train was stopped over a railroad crossing on FM-50, causing delays for drivers. The train was unable to move from its spot.

The cause of the fire is unknown and no injuries have been reported. Erik Maiorano with Robertson County Emergency Management says the engineer of the train called in the fire, and it will be unable to pass the bridge until Wednesday.

“The extent of damage right now is fire charring on the wood beams themselves with the creosote wood beams, they burn intensely. So that those will have to be replaced before they can open up the traffic again,” Maiorano said.

Railroad crews are expected on the scene Wednesday morning. Maiorano said the train should be able to pass Wednesday morning.

Multiple agencies are on scene responding.
