MSCO confirms identity of suspect killed in officer-involved shooting in Oakridge
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas (KBTX) - The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office confirmed 44-year-old Roosevelt Overton, Jr. from Houston was killed in an officer-involved shooting Monday night.
According to a press release from MCSO, Overton was a suspect in more than 20 robbery cases across Harris, Fort Bend and Montgomery Counties.
Around 8 p.m. Monday, Montgomery County deputies responded to an officer-involved shooting in Oakridge.
Multiple agencies, including members of the Houston Police Department, Harris County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety, were investigating a suspect involved in multiple robberies across three counties.
Investigators said the suspect arrived at a liquor store in the 26800 Block of I-45 Monday night. Law enforcement officers witnessed the suspect commit an aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and attempted to stop the suspect. The suspect ignored commands and ran to the back of the building, displaying a firearm. Multiple officers fired, hitting the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Rangers and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the incident.
