Texas A&M football names Boadi-Owusu newest 12th Man
The Texas A&M football team named sophomore defensive lineman Nana Boadi-Owusu as the next 12th Man, according to a social media post issued Monday.
The Arlington Martin product replaces Sam Mathews, who used up his eligibility after last season.
As a redshirt freshman, Boadi-Owusu saw action in four games, including A&M’s win over Oklahoma State in the Texas Bowl. He was a member of the all walk-on 12th Man kickoff team that featured in the final game at Kyle Field last season against Abilene Christian.
He was the recipient of the Brotherhood Impact Award at the annual team banquet.
A&M has awarded one player with the No. 12 each season since the early 1990s, under then head coach R.C. Slocum. The tradition harkens back to E. King Gil, an A&M basketball player who stood ready to come into the injury-stricken football team’s Dixie Classic matchup with Centre College, if needed.
Now, the 12th Man represents the student body, who stands ready throughout the entirety of football games in Kyle Field.
