BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - The Texas Legislative Session continues in Austin and Representative Paul Dyson joined News 3 to discuss several proposed bills.

House Bill 186

In a bipartisan vote, the Texas House gave final approval to a bill that could radically change the social media landscape in the state.

House Bill 186 would put a ban on the use of social media by children.

Rep. Dyson said he has asked people, specifically college students, about their thoughts on the bill.

“Initially, I thought they would say there’s no way that you should do that. They would want to have their access to social media, but overwhelmingly, almost every college student I talked to said it would have been great not to have had social media throughout high school,” Rep. Dyson said.

He said social media can be harmful and the goal of the legislation is to protect our youth.

House Bill 2217

A bill working to provide bullet-resistant class in law enforcement vehicles has passed the House and has been referred to the Criminal Justice Committee.

Rep. Dyson has been outspoken about his support of the legislation.

“I listened to the testimony during the hearing committee hearing on it, and it’s just amazing to think about what could have been prevented if they all would have had that bullet-resistant glass,” he said. “So, I’m really happy to see this legislation progressing and moving out of the House, moving over to the Senate.”

Continued work in Austin

Rep. Dyson said the House is currently considering a bill that seeks to make Texas more business-friendly.
