Aggie claim two titles on Day Two of SEC Outdoor Championships
(KBTX) - Texas A&M wrapped up Day Two of the SEC Track & Field Outdoor Championships in Lexington, Kentucky, with Sofia Yakushina and Aleksandr Solovev claiming gold medals.
Yakushina became the first freshman since 2017 to win the SEC Heptathlon title. She scored 6075 points with first-place finishes in the 200m (23.70), long jump (6.35m), javelin (39.98m), and 800m (2:14.41). The Aggie finished second in the high jump (1.71m), third in the 100m hurdles (13.71), and fourth in the shot put (11.84m).
Solovev won the pole vault title with a personal best throw of 5.72m (18-9.25). He was the only athlete to clear 18-4.5 and then went one mark higher.
The SEC Outdoor Championships wrap up with most finals events on Saturday.
