Texas A&M System Chancellor addresses academic tensions at leadership dinner
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - Texas A&M University System Chancellor Glenn Hegar addressed academic tensions during a speech at the Brazos County A&M Club Presidents’ Leadership Dinner Thursday night.
Hegar was confirmed in his position in March. Since then, the university system has seen major leadership changes following the exit of former President Mark Welsh.
When asked about his plans to address tension in academics, Hegar emphasized the importance of factual education.
“I have talked some about indoctrination, and that is something that shouldn’t happen on either political spectrum. It’s about common sense, it’s about education and education of facts,” Hegar said.
The chancellor said the system might discuss clearer education expectations at next week’s board meeting.
Hegar also highlighted how much growth the state of Texas has seen and what that could mean for the Texas A&M University System.
“In my 10 years, the finance sector went from the #3 industry to the #1. That’s an amazing change and so the diversity of the state, the trying to be nimble and agile to help move in those directions and take opportunities of that,” said Hegar.
