COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS/Gray News) - Memorial services have been scheduled for the late Sen. Lindsey Graham.

Graham, who represented South Carolina in the U.S. Senate since 2003, died on July 11 at the age of 71.

A medical examiner said early findings found Graham’s death was the result of a tear in the aorta, the body’s main artery.

Graham’s office announced Friday that a service will be held July 28 in Washington, D.C. Memorials will then be held in Columbia and Pickens County the following day.

Graham’s sister, Darline, was sworn in on Tuesday to finish his current term in the Senate.

Meanwhile, a special Republican primary for his seat is scheduled for August. The winner of that primary will then face Democratic nominee Annie Andrews in November, marking the first time South Carolina elects a new senator in more than a decade.
