Nonprofit to open recovery home for men in Brazos County

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - — A newly established nonprofit is preparing to open a recovery residence for men in Brazos County, with an opening date set for Aug. 15.

Lotus in Serenity Living will provide safe, structured housing, peer support, accountability, and connections to treatment and community resources for men recovering from substance use disorders.

Why the home was founded

The organization was founded by LaCresha Williams, M.S., LCDC, and her husband, Christopher Williams, who serves as co-founder. LaCresha Williams said her experience as a licensed chemical dependency counselor at a local rehabilitation facility revealed a recurring gap in care.

“Oftentimes you have clients that would come in and they would come in, get clean, try to do a different program afterwards, but then they would return back,” LaCresha Williams said. “One of the main reasons that they would return back was because they didn’t have that support.”

“Recovery doesn’t end when treatment ends,” she said. “Everyone deserves a safe place where they can continue healing, build healthy routines, and create a new future. We want Lotus to be that place.”

What life inside the home will look like

LaCresha Williams said residents will receive hands-on, day-to-day support covering basic needs and life skills.

“If someone needs to get their driver’s license, I’ll make sure they get their driver’s license. If they need to apply for any type of other resources, I’ll also be there to help them through that, try to find them jobs, and just being there to encourage them.”

The home currently has seven residents committed, with capacity for up to 10. Christopher Williams said he is honored to support his wife’s vision for the organization.

“I’m grateful to be a part of this, to be able to watch my wife and support her with everything that she wants to do,” Christopher Williams said. “This is a passion. This is something I watch her stay up late at night to study to try to make sure she perfects her craft. So I’m definitely grateful and honored just to be here with her.”

As Lotus in Serenity Living prepares to open, the organization is seeking monetary donations, household items — including furniture, bedding, towels, kitchen supplies, toiletries, and cleaning products — as well as volunteers and community partnerships.
