Karla Castillo anchors Live at Five and News 3 at Ten. She joined KBTX in May 2009.
A California native, Karla moved to the Brazos Valley in 2005 to be a reporter at another television station. She worked there for nearly two-and-a-half years before taking some time off to start a family. By 2009, she joined KBTX as a reporter and anchor. In 2011, Karla helped launch First News at Four with co-anchor Steve Fullhart.
Karla has been honored by the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters and nominated by the Lone Star Emmys for her anchoring. Among her notable assignments were covering Hurricanes Katrina and Rita the El Dorado chemical fire, and several undercover stings with police.
Karla graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Political Science. While at SJSU, she worked on the school's award-winning student newscast, "Update News." There, she gained lots of hands-on experience working as a reporter, producer, anchor, photographer and editor.
That knowledge came in handy when she spent a summer interning with the sports department at KSAT in San Antonio. Karla had many great opportunities that summer, including covering Bill Parcells' first training camp with the Dallas Cowboys, as well as the NBA champion San Antonio Spurs.
When she's not working, Karla enjoys spending time with her husband, Mike, and their son. She is a member of Texas Avenue Baptist Church in College Station.
