The Diesel Technician I is responsible for maintaining and repairing diesel-engine vehicles and equipment to include diagnosing and making repairs utilizing complex diagnostic equipment.
Required Education and Experience:
High School diploma or GED.
Two years of experience in repair and maintenance of diesel-engine vehicles or diesel powered equipment.
Licenses, Certifications and Registrations
Valid vehicle driver license and good driving record. Must be able to obtain State of Texas class “B” vehicle driver license (Commercial driver License with passenger endorsement and air brakes endorsement) within 45 days of employment. Must obtain State of Texas Vehicle Inspections license within 60 days of employment.
Knowledge and Skills:
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
This position will be covered by DOT regulations and be in a random drug and alcohol testing pool.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Relevant vocational training in repair and maintenance of diesel-engine vehicles.
Preferred Licenses, Certifications and Registrations:
Commercial vehicle operator’s license with passenger endorsement and air brakes endorsement.
Valid Texas State Inspections license.
ASE certification in one or more related specialty.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of electronic diagnostic equipment, brake lathes, valve grinders, air conditioning service equipment and other standard hand and other tools used in vehicle repair.
Preferred Other Requirements:
Instruct student technicians on repair techniques and assist the shop foreman when necessary, and help other diesel mechanics and distribute workload.
$16.04/hour or commensurate with experience
Diagnose, trouble shoot and repair diesel equipment. Rebuild engines, turbos, air compressors and other major parts on diesel equipment. Perform preventative maintenance.
Check and assist student technicians work.
Look up part numbers and order parts for repairs.
Assist by driving a DOT regulated vehicle in test driving, recovery of disabled vehicles, delivery of vehicles, etc.
