Job Description

The Transportation Services Assistant Manager is responsible for the assisting in staffing and management of the Special Events Unit which includes visitor/conference parking; RV parking; hotel coordination, and; cashiering for special events and in pay parking facilities. Serves as Manager for Special Events in her absence.

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Four years administrative experience, to include three years supervisory experience.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

Valid driver’s license. Must be able to obtain State of Texas class “C” vehicle operator’s license within 30 days of employment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Demonstrated leadership ability.
Ability to identify work priorities; advanced skill in oral and written communication; ability to work effectively under pressure and to function without perceivable supervision;.
Ability to accomplish objectives through the development and utilization of personnel.
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Other Requirements or Other Factors

Must be able to climb stairs and work in the heat and cold. Must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays with little or no notice or as job requires. Preferred Education and Experience:

Five years supervisory experience. Experience in transportation management. Salary: $44,912.00 to $57,740.80
Responsibilities Assists the Manager for the Special Events unit in the following: provides supervision and oversight to the employees within the unit; coordinates and supervises all responsibilities related to coordination with hotel partner, event and conference parking and traffic needs; responds to more difficult customer inquiries and complaints that escalate beyond the Business Coordinator level.
Handles inquiries, suggestions and complaints concerning parking policies for students, faculty and staff; provides education of students, faculty, staff and visitors concerning coordination of Texas A&M University special events, conferences and RV parking; responsible for accurate cash and credit card handling, deposits, and reconciliation for the unit. Required driving to various campus locations for meetings.

Assist in developing a plan of action for daily guest, event and conference parking for the on-campus hotel. Coordinate reservations with hotel liaisons to include any meetings necessary and outlining the event and timing in writing so that the customer can confirm the planning. Consult with customer about solutions when new parameters do not meet their anticipated needs. Communicate plan to department units as deemed necessary. Provide on-site supervision for hotel events as needed. Coordinate with valet component of the hotel to reserve, monitor and assist in developing plans for the operation. Review the staffing levels in Cain Garage specifically, to ensure meeting the needs of the hotel and other events in the area using the facility.

Responsible for monitoring parking management system counts and equipment alerts and responds with the appropriate action or updates. Develops content for and publishes operating manuals for event management.

Assist in developing a plan of action for special events taking place on campus. Coordinate reservations with customers to include any meetings necessary and outlining the event and timing in writing so that the customer can confirm the planning. Consult with customers about solutions when new parameters do not meet their anticipated needs. Communicate plan to department units as deemed necessary. Provide on-site supervision for special events as needed. Ensure event plans are communicated to other areas of the department via the online Special Events Calendar.

Responsible for selecting, orienting, training, motivating and retaining staff capable of meeting current and projected human resource needs for the unit. Plans, schedules and monitors staff, including responsibility for coordinating/assigning and scheduling leave. Ensures adequate staffing for meeting unit goals to include interviewing and hiring. Provides disciplinary actions, terminations, probationary reviews and annual evaluations as appropriate. Provides employees with operational feedback. Approves time worked and leave requests for full-time employees.

Confers with students and employees about Texas A&M University traffic and parking policies and regulations. Provides education to staff, faculty, students and visitors regarding TAMU traffic and parking regulations. Represents the department on committees and at meetings around the campus.

Assists manager in the formulation, interpretation and implementation of departmental and unit goals, objectives and policies to ensure delivery of quality parking services; assists as the property accountability officer for the unit; and responsible for complying with audit controls within unit.

Persons in this position will be required to drive state vehicle to travel to various parts of campus and are considered essential when the University declares an emergency, campus closure, class cancellations, etc. Performs other duties as assigned.

Special Instruction to Applicants:
Position schedule will start as 08:00AM - 05:00PM for training purposes and then move to 10:00AM - 07:00PM for extended daily coverage.
