Over the past two decades, President Bush and the former First Lady were frequent visitors in Bryan and College Station.
During their time in the Brazos Valley, they had several favorite spots including Christopher’s World Grille in Bryan.
Chris Lampo is the owner of the restaurant and says he has many memories catering to the President.
“A really fantastic adventure that we’ve been on the last 18 years, serving the Bush family and the Bush Foundation, at his apartment here in College station and also at the restaurant,” said Lampo
In Downtown Bryan, Rami Ceroni first served the couple in 2003 at his restaurant, Caffe’ Capri. He says they always sat at the same booth, and the President always enjoyed the same dish.
“Mrs. Bush switched every time, but he always got the eggplant parmesan and that was his dish, he never deviated,” said Ceroni.
Tap Bentz, the owner of Outback Steakhouse in College Station says Mr. and Mrs. Bush never wanted a private area to sit in. They always sat out in the open with everyone else.
“I got to give the community a lot of credit because; they didn’t just line up and say, “Oh the President is here, let’s go talk to him.” They were very respectful of him about finishing his meal. The secret services were like no, it’s fine. That’s what he wanted, he wanted to be accessible to the people and he was just incredible about it,” said Bentz.
Caffe’ Capri is running a special for the remainder of the week, in honor of President Bush. You can try his favorite eggplant parmesan dish for just 41 cents after the purchase of an entrée.
