COLLEGE STATION, Tex. (KBTX) The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service held their opening ceremonies for the 22nd Annual Walk Across Texas.

Dozens came out to the Post Oak mall for the kickoff event on Saturday.

Teams of up to eight members will work together to accumulate miles until they reach 833 miles, which is the total distance across Texas.

Participants on Saturday stretched and did a one-mile walk around the mall and a cooldown that was led by D-1 Training.

Volunteers say they hope more people participate who want to have healthier lifestyles.

"I hope people get out of their comfort zone and build those new healthy habits and see how it good it feels to get active, to get fit and improve your heart health," said Fawn Preuss.

The registration deadline for Walk Across Texas! is February 12, 2019.
