TEXAS A&M, Tex. (KBTX)- On Saturday, dozens of people brought their mats and participated in a community-wide yoga event for International Yoga Day. The event was put on by Art of Living and the Texas A&M group, YesPlus.
More than 100 cities across the USA also participate in the yoga festival, all to deepen, share and celebrate the path of yoga.
"Every year all over the world the celebration goes on this day to spread the knowledge and practices of yoga and bring more and more people to yoga," said Sejal Shah, yoga instructor and member of Art of Living.
The Art of Living Foundation is a volunteer-based and educational organization that encourages full body and mental awareness by putting on programs and retreats throughout the country.
"We have been doing this for three years now in hopes to make people more aware of the benefits of yoga," said Shah.
Yoga instructors said that the practice enhances physical and emotional health, increases energy levels and improves interpersonal and societal relationships, leading to a more, stress-free, peaceful society.
