Caldwell man gets 60 years in prison for continuous sexual abuse of a child
A Caldwell man will spend the next six decades in prison for the continuous sexual abuse of a child.
Aurelio Hernandez-Cruz, 39, of Caldwell, was sentenced Monday. He was found guilty of the crime on June 7.
Hernandez-Cruz was indicted in April of 2018 on the charges, after an investigation by the Caldwell Police Department.
The outcry of abuse was made in Travis County, so the Austin Police Department originally began the investigation, but referred the case to Caldwell once it was discovered the abuse occurred in Burleson County.
The victim was 11 at the time the abuse was reported and described regularly occurring sexual abuse since age 7 at the hands of Aurelio Hernandez-Cruz. The victim, now 13, testified, along with 2 former foster parents, law enforcement, and a forensic nurse.
"60 years without parole won't repair the damage Cruz did for years," District Attorney Julie Renken said.
"We hope that the victim in this case can take comfort in knowing her voice was finally heard."
