Memorial Day is next week and one non-profit is working now to remember fallen heroes across the nation.
April 25 Carry the Load West Coast relay team set out on their journey from Seattle, Washington to Dallas.
The message behind the 4,600 mile route is to honor and celebrate those who have made sacrifices for our country.
Monday afternoon the team arrived in College Station at the George Bush Library. Local veterans and first responders joined the team on a 4.5 mile walk to the Marshalls in Bryan.
One of those veterans was TJ Robie, a retired Navy Navy Submarine veteran, who was happy to show the true meaning of Memorial Day.
“It’s honoring those that have lost their lives in service to this country,” said Robie.
Robert Lopez, one of the team members, says the journey this far has been heartfelt.
“We don’t always need to think about ourselves. We have to think about people that have sacrificed in neighborhoods, overseas, for the living that we have,” said Lopez.
Each participant carries the load of a fallen hero showing appreciation of their service.
Carry the Load West Coast will finish its tour on Sunday in Dallas.
They will end the event with a special two-day rally wrapping things up on Memorial Day.
