Celebrating National Floral Design Day with local students

COLLEGE STATION, Tex. (KBTX) - When you receive a vase of your favorite flowers, you may not think about what went in to creating the arrangement, but since it's National Floral Design Day, we spent some time with local students who are learning the art.

Throughout the three year program, A&M Consolidated High School floral design students get hours of hands on experience and even the opportunity to get a job in the industry.

"It's a great part time to job to have just to get you through it and I might end up doing it as a career, I don't really know yet, but it's a really good opportunity," explained junior floral design student, Haily Brown.

After taking an introduction to agriculture class, students can take introduction to floral design, then advanced floral design, and then during their senior year, they can choose to take a practicum class.

The practicum class allows them to have an internship with a local florist and potentially get a job through that opportunity.

Next time you are looking for some fresh flowers for an event or to surprise someone special, keep in mind that you can purchase arrangements the students create.

The best way to learn more about ordering from them is messaging them on their Facebook page or emailing the program director, Rebecca Luna, at rluna@csisd.org.
