BRYAN, Tex. (KBTX) - Brazos County Officials removed a 178-year-old ceder tree from in front of the Brazos County Courthouse Tuesday morning.
At around 6:30 a.m. crews fired up the chainsaw and cut away the branches of the tree before sawing down the trunk.
The historic tree survived several moves around the county over its lifetime.
Specialists with the Texas A&M Forest Service recommended removing the historic cedar, saying it posed a risk to the public. Only one of the branches was actually alive.
Seedlings from the tree were collected to plant new cedars in the future.
