Child molester receives maximum sentence in Brazos County

BRYAN, Tex. (KBTX)- A Brazos County jury on Wednesday convicted a College Station man of molesting a child in 2010.

Juan Cervantes, 44, was sentenced by 361st District Judge Steve to the maximum possible punishment of 20 years in prison for Indecency by Contact.

In addition, Judge Smith sentenced Cervantes to eight years in prison for Indecency by Exposure, and ordered that sentence to be stacked on top of the 20-year sentence for Indecency by Contact.

The victim was 3-years-old when it happened, according to prosecutors.

During the trial, other victims claimed they were also molested by Cervantes when they were children. Brazos County prosecutors traveled to Kansas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana to investigate his past.

The jury deliberated only 15 minutes before convicting him.

During the punishment phase, prosecutors presented evidence of additional crimes committed by Cervantes, including an assaulting an elderly employer, and an assault on a member of the staff at the Brazos County Jail.

The case was prosecuted by Brazos County Assistant District Attorneys Natalie Tise and Cahal McColgan.
