COLLEGE STATION, Tex. (KBTX) - The City of College Station has dedicated the site for its new city hall. Wednesday, Mayor Karl Mooney appeared on Brazos Valley This Morning to talk about plans for the new building as well as the future of the ofo bike share program and the upcoming Walk with the Mayor event.
Although the city has released renderings of what the new city hall could look like, Mooney says they are still in the design phase of the project. He believes that in the late fall of 2019, crews will begin breaking ground.
The mayor described the building as "three stories on either side with a three story atrium leading into the council chambers." Mooney went on to say "We're looking forward to that building being able to provide our city a lot of service for many, many years, and hopefully, not the roof issues we're experiencing right now at the current city hall."
The City of College Station recently revoked the permit for ofo, the company that owns the yellow bicycles shared by many students. The permit has since been reinstated but Texas A&M University is looking for a new company to take ofo's place. Mooney says there needs to be more accountability for where the bikes are left.
Finally, Mayor Mooney is holding his next Walk with the Mayor event at the Creek Meadows Estates on Sunday, Nov. 18. Residents are encouraged to meet the mayor and discuss neighborhood issues that need attention.
