College Station homeowner hopes security video will lead to theft arrest

COLLEGE STATION, Tex. (KBTX) – Security cameras are proving to be a very valuable tool in the fight against crime.

A College Station homeowner is hoping his camera investment pays off by sharing video online of a recent theft at his home.

The burglary happened earlier this month. A man wearing sunglasses on his forehead stole a lawn mower from Tino Peralta’s carport.

"Nowadays people just see things that they want and they just take it,” said Peralta.

Before he actually got away with the yard tool, the thief was caught on camera lurking around. He rang the doorbell and took a tour of Peralta’s backyard.

"He took it back to his car and I guess he stuffed it into his back seat and took off,” said Peralta.

Peralta says he was furious to watch it all unfold; he called the police and took to social media.

"In order for me to have anything out in my carport, in my garage or my lawn I have to put up these cameras and these security lights and everything,” he said.

Peralta believes the thief is local and hopes the Facebook post generates some leads.

"If I don't get it back I don't, but this guy needs to learn a lesson that you can't just take what you want,” said Peralta.

Peralta filed a police report with College Station police and the case is under investigation.
