College Station to unveil WWI statue on Veterans Day 2018

COLLEGE STATION, Tex. (KBTX) - The City of College Station is preparing to unveil a new World War I statue at Veterans Park.

On Sunday, November 11, community members are invited to attend a dedication of the new statue as well as the annual Veterans Day ceremony held at the Louis L. Adam Memorial Plaza at Veterans Park.

The new statue is called "Over the Top" and was created by a local artist. The dedication will happen at 4 p.m.and will feature a keynote speech by Dr. Don Wilson, seventh archivist of the U.S.

The dedication will be followed by the annual Veterans Day ceremony at the park. Retired USAF Gen. Mark Welsh III will deliver a keynote speech. He is Dean of the Bush School of Government and Public Service.

348 new names have been inscribed on the Honor Wall located at the park since last Veterans Day. Those new names will be read aloud at the ceremony. That brings the total number of names to 6,000.

The city thanks the Board of Directors at the Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial for all the work they do to make this ceremony happen each year.
