COLLEGE STATION, Tex. (KBTX) -- A College Station woman was taking her bridal photos on the bridge behind the George Bush Presidential Library years ago when she says President 41 walked around the corner and joined in on her photo shoot.
Erin Richards has the treasured photo hanging in her home to always remember the moment President George Bush crashed her wedding photos 16 years ago. She says he was visiting his daughter’s gravesite and taking a stroll in the garden when he saw Richards across the way.
Richards says it’s a moment she will never forget.
“He just started saying, ‘Oh my gosh, look at the bride, look at that bride!’ And I didn’t realize who it was until he approached and he got so close and I was in shock.” Richards continued. “It was one of those moments where you’re just speechless to have someone who is such an honorable man come approach you and have real conversation,”
Richards says the president was kind and very intentional with their conversation, asking her about her time at Texas A&M, her soon-to-be husband, and her upcoming wedding.
Richards also says she found out that day her great-aunt was friends with the president years ago. When she told him she had passed away, she says President Bush had tears in his eyes.
