BRYAN, Tex. (KBTX) - A bill on the Texas governor's desk would, if signed into law, reclassify dispatch workers as first responders.
"We feel certain that it's probably going to pass," said Laura Blackburn, the associate director of Brazos County 9-1-1. She and her colleagues want it to, at least.
Blackburn says the direct benefits of the law would possibly include "any services provided to first responders," but she also says that locally, even statewide, that's usually the case.
"We think it would make everyone aware of the important role that we do play," said Blackburn, highlighting the extensive training and life-saving work that dispatchers do.
