The Texas Rangers and Hearne police are investigating the death of a man found inside his home early Sunday morning.

Police were called to Lawrence Reyes' home in the 300 block of E. Evans Street after a neighbor found him deceased.

A spokesman for Hearne police tells KBTX the department is treating this like an active criminal investigation, but wouldn't elaborate or provide anymore details.

Reyes' daughter, Sarah, says her family is almost certain his death is the result of a homicide, and fears a killer may be on the loose.

"We have to do something about this. We feel like Hearne police are not doing enough right now and we fear something else will happen, said Reyes.

The 56-year-old's body has been sent to Austin for an autopsy, according to Reyes' family.

They also claim neighbors heard gunshots in the area early Sunday just before Reyes was found dead.

"He was a loving father. A loving grandfather. He had some troubles in the past, but he didn't deserve this. We want answers, and we're getting very little information from police. We don't even have a name or number for one of the investigators," said Reyes.

Police said they would issue a news release when more information could be released.
