Sanderson Farms Feedmill is now under control, Hwy 79 will open shortly

ROBERTSON COUNTY, Tex. (KBTX)- 10:15 a.m. Thursday update:
The situation at the Sanderson Farms Feed Mill is now under control. Highway 79 will re-open shortly and those that live in the area may return to their homes.

10:43 p.m. Wednesday update:
Additional emergency crews are on scene including a HAZMAT crew. Equipment will be brought into the area overnight to assist these crews with the fire.

Highway 79 in this area will remain closed overnight and likely for the better part of Thursday morning.

Firefighters remain on the scene Wednesday night of a fire inside one of the silos at the Sanderson Farms feed mill along Highway 79 between Easterly and Franklin.

A spokesperson for the Robertson County Sheriff's Office says some employees at the facility were evacuated, but no injuries have been reported.

Firefighters from several fire agencies are assisting with the situation at this time. There is concern that if the contents inside the silo get too hot, the top of it could blow and debris could be projected into the air.

Just after 6:30 p.m., firefighters went back into the silo to continue fighting the fire. They also split teams of firefighters up to cover other parts of the county for additional emergency calls.

A team from the Beaumont area is also being called in to assist with the situation.

Highway 79 starting from FM 1940 to FM 2096 is expected to be shut down for several hours.
