Texas A&M University held a symposium called "Immigration, Nativism & Changing Politics."

Researchers from across the country converged on College Station to share their research regarding nativism.

"All we're talking about is policies and other sorts of government initiatives that favor native-born over foreign-born," said Cliff Young from Ipsos Public Affairs.

Young explains that it's not that more people feel "nativist" recently, it's just that politicians like President Donald Trump have brought nativism to the forefront of the national conversation.

"It's important that we're all talking about this now," said Young.

Daron Shaw, politics professor from the University of Texas at Austin and co-director of the Fox News Poll says a study of the 2016 election shows a rise in public nativism as well.
