Focus at Four: The case for medication-based addiction treatment
An outpatient substance abuse treatment center has opened in College Station.
Symetria Recovery Center opened recently, specializing in opioid treatment.
Addictionologists from Symetria say, there are a lot of treatment centers in the United States, but not as many that offer medication-assisted treatment.
"This is evidence-based treatment," said Tim Bohman, COO of Symteria Recovery. He says the research shows that a patient-focused approach is best, with medication assisting the physical ramifications of quitting a drug your body has come to rely upon.
As for whether to send your loved one to a treatment center if they're addicted?
"Addiction is a disease, and as with any disease, professional treatment is what moves people out of a disease state and into long-term recovery," said Bohman. "While the stay-at-home model may sound appealing, there is no other disease concept out there where that is highly promoted."
