Queen Theatre to reopen as a classic movie theater, event space
After decades of disuse, the Queen Theatre in Downtown Bryan will reopen within a matter of months, likely by January 2018.
"We can't give an exact timeline," said Downtown Bryan Association director Sandy Farris. "But the plan is to have the construction finished by late 2017 or very early 2018."
Farris explained the Queen is going back to its roots. Its main purpose will be to show classic films on the big screen. Two or three weekends per month, a theme will be chosen. Farris gave the examples of "Hitchcock weekend" or a "B-movie festival."
Plus, Farris says the Queen will be available as an event space to be rented, whether for use as a movie venue, live music venue, wedding venue--or anything. Furthermore, the top floors will be used as the Downtown Bryan Association's offices.
"The motto of downtown is 'Where history meets community,'" said Farris. "That's what we're doing here with the Queen."
