A former employee of the Madison County Sheriff's Department has been charged with aggravated sexual assault that happened 20 years ago.
The Texas Rangers arrested Ivan Wayne Linebaugh, 58, Monday. According to investigators, Linebaugh was working as a Madison County Sheriff's Deputy in April 2000 when he made a traffic stop on Interstate 45.
Officials said the victim alleged a marked patrol unit stopped her and a uniformed law enforcement officer forced her to perform a sexual act instead of going to jail. Rangers launched an investigation and collected DNA from the victim's clothing.
In 2017, authorities reopened the case and continued looking into multiple leads. With help from the FBI, Rangers used DNA genealogy to arrest Linebaugh.
Linebaugh was employed by the Madison County Sheriff's Department until 2011.
