Funeral arrangements set for SHSU couple killed in helicopter crash

UVALDE COUNTY, Tex. (KBTX) - Funeral arrangements have been set for the Sam Houston State University newlyweds who were killed in a helicopter crash Saturday night.

Will Byler and Bailee Ackerman Byler were members of the university's rodeo team and got engaged last year.

They left their wedding ceremony Saturday evening in a helicopter, rather than taking a car. Less than two hours after they took off, their helicopter crashed just north of Uvalde County.

The couple and their pilot were killed. The helicopter crashed into the side of a hill, scattering debris more than 100 yards from the site, making it difficult for the NTSB to investigate the cause.

Two visitations have been set for the couple. The first will happen Thursday at Turning Point Church of Vidor, from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. A service will follow.

The second will be at the Bellville United Methodist Church from 8:30 a.m. - 10 a.m. A graveside service will then take place at 4:30 p.m. that same day at the Byler Family Cemetery at Byler Ranch in Uvalde.
