Six-year-old boy injured in Christmas hit-and-run accident dies
The child injured in a Robertson County hit-and-run accident on Christmas morning passed away early Friday.
According to DPS officials, the six-year-old boy died just before 1 a.m. in Houston. He had been airlifted to Texas Children's Hospital following emergency treatment at CHI St. Joseph Regional Hospital in Bryan. He remained in critical condition there for about two days.
18-year-old Katlyne Martinez of Franklin was arrested Wednesday for the hit-and-run. DPS said her charges will likely be enhanced to failure to stop and render aid resulting in death, which is a second-degree felony.
DPS says just after 10 a.m. on Christmas Day, the six-year-old was riding a 4-wheeler at home and pulled out into the middle of the street. Martinez was traveling south on FM 46 near Morgan Lane when she collided with the 4-wheeler.
Police say Martinez fled the scene and stopped 5 miles down the road after her truck broke down.
Martinez was arrested and initially charged with failure to stop and render aid resulting in serious bodily injury, a third-degree felony.
